The European Association of Urology is a scientific urological association with currently well over 14,000 members. Members are medical professionals working in the urological field or related medical specialties. As an organization, the EAU offers an extensive package of products and services through science, education and research to their members. The logistics related to these activities are concentrated in Arnhem, The Netherlands.

Job objectives
The EAU is in search of an Editor that knows how to develop and work out the development process of qualitative documentation and other materials ensuring suitable content of high editorial standard are delivered for the EAU newspapers, various EAU websites, historical publications, video journals, etcetera. The Editor works within the Marketing & Communications team and also works cooperatively with other EAU departments and urologists.

Result areas
The Editor joining the EAU is responsible for

  • Editing and supervising the production of
    • Generating and posting (through a CMS) news and promotional items, especially on uroweb.org
    • EUT (European Urology Today) in cooperation with the EUT co-ordinator
    • EUT Congress News (annually)
    • Historical publications (“Historia” series and special publications)
    • EUVJ (European Urology Video Journals)
    • EAU-related statements
    • Prefaces
    • Ghostwriting
  • On-site coverage of meetings: writing reports, taking photographs, doing interviews (on camera in some cases), live reporting through social media
  • Writing and collecting articles, news, reports, papers, commentary and columns in general
  • Selecting and interviewing relevant persons for articles
  • Developing ideas for articles, e.g. through brainstorming or by doing research
  • Interfacing with the Communications Department, writers, illustrators etcetera to ensure final product meets required specifications
  • Monitoring social media and posting updates (eg: announcements, links to news items)
  • Planning future magazine issues
  • Drafting layout and technical production of print out and online publications

Job characteristics & requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, English or Communications
  • Basic editorial knowledge
  • 1-3 years of experience in a similar position
  • Affinity with medical topics
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills in English, preferably a native speaker
  • Independent writing and editing experience publishing under regular deadlines
  • Preferably experienced with promotional writing
  • Demonstrated ability to thoroughly research stories and topics while handling multiple tasks in an organized manner
  • Basic knowledge of legal applications
  • Ability to brainstorm effectively with others is a major plus

Terms of employment
This is a fulltime position with an indication of salary between 2.300 – 3.300 euros gross a month. Within the organisation, ample opportunities exist for personal and professional growth. A year contract with an attractive salary package including and 80% employer pension contribution, collective insurance and a very interesting position in an informal and international working environment.
