Research Plan Submission

Aim & Scope 
To stimulate and support EAUN Members to conduct and disseminate urological research.

Eligible participants have to comply with the following rules:

• All categories of EAUN Members can submit a research project plan
• The research project must not have started at the time of submission
• The research project has to be led by an EAUN Member
• The research plan submission and presentation must be made by an EAUN Member who is also an author on the research team
• The applicant must ensure that the topic selected is of stated and explicit relevance to urological nursing

Presentation and publication of results

• The EAUN Research Plan competition winner will be invited to submit an abstract for the next International EAUN Meeting and the results of the prize-winning research project will also be published in an article on the EAUN website.
• When the project has been completed, the winner will be invited to present the results of the project at the EAUN Research Competition.

Additional rules for EAUN Board and Scientific Congress Office (SCO) members:

• If an EAUN Board/SCO member is 1st author, a research plan can be presented, but it is excluded from winning a prize.
• If an EAUN Board/SCO member is not the 1st author, the research plan can be presented, but if it wins a prize, it is the 1st author who will be the recipient.

Consider the following guidelines when preparing your research protocol:

• To ensure that all important factors or considerations are taken into account when designing a study we recommend applying Checklists (according to the chosen design), such as: https://casp-uk.net/casp-tools-checklists/  or https://jbi.global/critical-appraisal-tools

 The following criteria must be present in any EAUN Research Project Plan

1. Title (this should be clearly stated and delineated)
2. Introduction which details:
   - Background/Importance of the problem (e. g. prevalence, treatment options, outcomes, survival) with references to previous research and literature search strategy.  A short literature review offering a summary of the present knowledge on the topic should be provided.
   - Rationale for the proposed research project, with a justification of the importance of the study and relevance of the research to urology nursing, closing with explicit objectives, overall goal and/or research question(s).
3. Methodology, offering a succinct description of the following:
   - Type of study design and a short justification for choosing this design, including any potential limitations
   - Study methodological procedures (data generation method, instruments used)
   - Study population (target population): inclusion criteria, exclusion criteria, recruitment
   - Sample size calculation (if applicable)
   - Analysis method appropriate to the selected research approach
   - Implementation strategy
4. Ethical considerations
5. Feasibility, to include
   - Realistic timetable
   - Budget: What would you propose using the EAUN budget for, and where will you find more funding (if needed) to complete your project?
6. Summary of the way urological nursing/patients/family members will benefit from the project. Comment on anticipated implications for clinical practice or research
7. A complete reference list
8. State any possible conflicts of interest
9. Your research project has to be presented as a project plan (see criteria provided). Hospital names and addresses, cities and country must not be mentioned except in the submission form.

Please note that failure to meet one or more of these criteria may affect the final ranking of your research and could result in your research plan not being accepted for presentation.

Presentation in the Research Competition Session

• Presenters will be able to download the presentation template on the Faculty website with the following titles: Aims & objectives; Research question/statement; Population; Materials, Methods and Timeline; Anticipated outcome[s]; Literature search strategy.
• All presenters must use these slides in their presentations in order to improve the comparability of the presentations and the research protocols for both the audience and jury.
• The selected presenters will be invited to present their plan in the Special Session “Nursing Research Competition”, in a maximum of 10 minutes, with an additional 5 minutes for discussion with the panel.
• Presenters will receive written feedback on their presentation and research plan after the meeting.

Prize

• The prize for the Best EAUN Nursing Research Project is € 2,500
• The prize winner should be present at the award session of the EAUN Meeting to accept their prize. If they are not present, the prize will be accepted on their behalf by a Scientific Committee member.
