Introducing Isaac Florido, a new candidate for the EAUN board
My name is Isaac Florido. I live and work in Huelva, a beautiful city in Andalusia, in southern Spain. Although small, it is a city with a rich and varied history. I graduated with a degree in nursing in 1998 and I have been working in the field of urology since 2001. I also hold a master’s degree in urology nursing.
I currently work in the outpatient urology department at Infanta Elena Hospital. We care for patients with a wide range of medical conditions, including benign prostate disease, urethral strictures and LUTS. Our unit performs urodynamics test and other diagnostic procedures. Although our scope is broad, our main focus is on uro-oncology and the management of all types of catheters and urological diversions.
I am a board member of the Spanish Association of Urology Nurses and a reviewer for the ENFURO Journal. I am also a member of the scientific committee for conferences and meetings organised by the SAUN.
Having the opportunity to be part of the EAUN board would be an honour and a privilege. From my current role and experience, I would like to contribute to the growth of our profession by helping advance, share and increase the knowledge that defines the essential field of urological nursing.
I also believe that we must raise the profile of urological nursing among our colleagues and help them discover its importance and value. It is equally vital to introduce this speciality to university students, as they are the future of our profession.
I have always believed that the more knowledge, skills, and training a nurse has, the better they can do their job and the better they can help their patients. Furthermore, I firmly believe that the knowledge and skills we acquire must be shared with humility and respect with other colleagues. The EAUN provides the ideal platform to do this, enabling us to contribute the development of urological nursing at both the European and global level.
I end my introduction with a quote from Florence Nightingale that perfectly captures what I believe about our profession: "Nursing is an art: and if it is to be made an art, it requires an exclusive devotion as hard a preparation, as any painter’s or sculptor’s work; for what is the having to do with dead canvas or dead marble, compared with having to do with the living body, the temple of God’s spirit? It is one of the fine arts: I almost said the finest of fine arts."
