Introducing Anastasia Pana, a new candidate member for the EAUN Board

My professional journey over the past two decades has combined clinical expertise, academic engagement, and research activity - experiences that have shaped both my perspective and my motivation to contribute at a European level. I graduated from the Department of Nursing of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 2005, completed a Master’s degree in Public Health in 2007, and in 2023 earned my PhD focusing on the ageing population.

EAUN Board

For the past two years, I have been teaching “Gerontological Nursing” as a professor’s assistant at the university. My academic involvement, alongside 19 years of continuous clinical practice at a General Hospital, has given me a comprehensive understanding of both the theoretical and practical dimensions of nursing care.

My clinical career has been strongly connected to urology. For 13 years, I worked as a scrub nurse specializing in urological procedures, gaining in-depth knowledge of surgical practice and multidisciplinary collaboration. After serving for one year in a COVID ICU during an exceptionally demanding period, I have worked the last five years in a clinic caring for patients with urological and neurosurgical conditions. And now I am serving as head nurse of the dept. of urology, leading a team and coordinating care for patients with a wide spectrum of urological needs.

I decided to join the EAUN Board because I strongly believe that urology nursing must continuously evolve to meet the needs of an ageing population and increasingly complex patient pathways. My research background in gerontology, my publication record, and my authorship of the book Gerontological Nursing reflect my commitment to evidence-based practice and lifelong learning. I see EAUN as a platform where clinical excellence, education, and research can intersect to shape the future of our specialty.

Joining the EAUN board is both a responsibility and an inspiration. I look forward to contributing my clinical, academic, and leadership experience to support our shared mission: advancing urology nursing practice and ensuring high-quality, patient-centred care for individuals across Europe.
