For who

This course is targeted to nurses who wish to enhance their knowledge and skills in assessing and managing patients with urostomies.  This course will provide an overview of urological nursing care of urostomies including anatomy and pathophysiology, nursing management, complications, and troubleshooting. The psychological and social factors including quality of life implications of urostomies will be discussed using case studies and evidence-based best practice.

This course combines all the best features of an educational event – interaction, group work, latest updates and established evidence-based recommendations. We have invited renowned experts in the field, from a theoretical and practical point of view, who will train you with the purpose to help you spread the latest insights in the field.

 

Application procedure

Application deadline: 15 August 2025

  • Candidates fill out an online application form by 15 August
  • The link to the form can be found below under the header “How to apply”
  • The number of participants is limited to 30, therefore candidates will be selected by means of the information in the application form reviewed by the organising committee.
  • To be selected for this course the candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in urology/continence care with urinary diversion patients and on completion of this course be  prepared to disseminate the knowledge gained to others.
  • Selection by the organising committee will take place in the last week of August.
  • Applicants will be informed by 1 September.
  • The decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

 

Aims and objectives

To enhance nursing knowledge, practical skills and competence needed to manage a urostomy effectively, ensuring optimal physical care and improved quality of life for individuals living with a urinary diversion/urostomy.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the anatomy and pathophysiology of a urostomy
  • Discuss the indications and types of urinary diversions
  • Identify early signs of complications such as infection, skin irritation, stoma blockage, etc.
  • Describe effective strategies to educate patient/caregivers on how to manage their urostomy, life style adjustment and improved quality of care
  • Identify tools to enhance individual psychological support, promote self-care and independence

DAY 1: The story begins

• Opening and welcome address – the story begins

• Module 2. Holistic care for patients with urostomy
• Module 3. Empowering patients to troubleshooting
• Module 4. Interactive group work on clinical case studies provided by participants
• Questions and closing remarks

 

Sunday, 16 November

DAY 2: Navigating life with a urostomy

• Welcome – Navigating life with a urostomy
• Module 5. The frontiers of individualised care
• Module 6. Quality of life – the patient’s point of view
• Module 7. Workshop: interactive hands-on stations with demo, tip & tricks for troubleshooting, etc.
• Evaluation and closing remarks

Registration fees

Registration fee for the full course is €135 (incl. VAT) for EAUN members and €180 (incl. VAT) for non-EAUN members.

The EAUN books your hotel room for one night and reimburses your economy flight (max. 500 euro). No other travel costs will be reimbursed.

 

Accreditation

An application will be made for accreditation of the 8th ESUN Course (15-16 November 2025, Prague, Czech Republic), within the EU-ACME/CNE programme.

Within the EU-ACME/CNE programme, the activities are accredited following the rule – 1 credit per hour (in 0.25 increments), with a maximum of 8 credits per day.

Each delegate should only claim credits for the time that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.
